ELECTROLYTIC ZINC COATING
How it works and why it protects metal
This is a surface treatment that coats the material with a thin (10-15 microns as a standard) and uniform layer of zinc, applied through an electrochemical process at room temperature. Its goal is twofold: to protect the metal from corrosion and to ensure a smooth, controlled finish, suitable even for highly technical components.
How does the process work?
Preparation Phase
The component is degreased, pickled and activated to remove oxides, oils and impurities from previous processes or conditions. This phase is crucial: without a clean surface, the zinc will not adhere properly and risks compromising the final result.
Immersion
The particular (cathode) is immersed in a solution containing zinc salts (anode).
Electrochemical Deposition

When direct current is applied, the zinc ions present in the solution migrate to the part and are deposited in metallic form.
The result is a uniform, micron-controllable coating, much more precise than other methods.
Final Treatment (Passivations and Sealants)
​
After deposition, the coating can be further protected with passivations (white, yellow, black, trivalent, etc.) and sealants that increase corrosion resistance and/or improve its aesthetic appearance.
Nanotechnological Enhancement and Sealing
​
If the customer's specifications require salt spray resistance, the part is treated with a special nanotechnological formulation that increases its corrosion resistance and durability.

What materials can it be applied to?
Zinc electrolytic galvanizing is particularly suitable for:

Carbon steel (the most common material).

Alloy steels with complex geometries or small parts.

Cast iron, after adequate preparation.

Iron
However, it is not suitable for aluminium (anodisation is better), copper or stainless steel, which require specific treatments.
